Katie Johnson, Counseling Intern
Katie is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern, pursuing her Masters degree at the University of Tennessee. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 2016. She has spent the last three years working in various support roles in student services, residence life, and clinical settings.
Katie approaches personal growth in clients from a strengths-based and developmental perspective, focusing on solutions for client wellness by fostering a safe space to explore personal insights and cope with change through genuine therapeutic relationships. She believes that individuals are able to draw from their own resources to create personal self-care practices for sustained mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Katie enjoys working individually with adolescents, college students, and adults experiencing interpersonal, career, and life transitions. She is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Psychological First Aid. She also has experience in providing grief support through creative interventions. Katie draws from theoretical frameworks of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to best support individual clients needs.
Katie will be working under supervision by site and faculty instructors and plans to pursue licensure as a professional counselor at the conclusion of her Masters program and internship.
